Friday 28 May 2010 – Evening Excursion
6.00 pm – a visit to Penrhoslligwy Church and Plas Bodafon.
Meet at the entrance to the church (SH 481859). At Bryn Refail, leave the A5025 and take the road towards the mountain. After visiting the church we continue, either along a path through the fields or a short distance up the road by car, to Plas Bodafon, where we will be welcomed by the owners, Geoff and Olwen Green.
Saturday 5 June 2010 – Full Day Excursion
11.00 am – Porth Wen, Pant y Gaseg and Werthyr. Park in the layby (SH401937) on the seaward side of the A5025 between Bull Bay and Cemaes. We will walk to the coast and have our picnic overlooking the Porth Wen brickworks. After lunch we will walk via Castell to Pant y Gaseg. There are options at various points for the less energetic to return to their cars. We then visit the earthwork at Werthyr, which was excavated by Time Time in 2006. Frances Lynch Llewellyn took part in the dig and will tell us what was discovered. We round off the day with an evening meal at Lastra Fram, Penrhyd, Amlwch LL68 9TF. Friday 25 June 2010 – Evening Excursion
6.30 pm – a visit to Beaumaris Church. Meet in the church. Our guide is the Revd Neil Fairlamb, who will give us a history of the church and show us some of the interesting monuments.
Saturday 10 July 2010 – Full Day Excursion
Full day excursion to Ty Gwyn, Llanfihangel-y-Traethau Church, Harlech & Llandanwg Church. 11.00 a.m. Andrew Davidson is our guide for the day. We meet at Ty Gwyn on the coast (SH 599358). Follow the A496 towards Harlech. After Ty Gwyn station, take the minor road on the right at the sharp bend at Ynys. Follow this road to the coast and park in the car park. After hearing about the old port at Ty Gwyn, we will visit the church and then proceed to Harlech for lunch. (We either bring a picnic or eat in a restaurant of our choice.) Andrew will take us around Harlech, then we will visit Llandanwg church, where there have been some very important recent discoveries.
Saturday 4 September 2010 – Afternoon Excursion
2.00 pm – Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog Old Church and Plas Berw. Take the minor road between Pentre Berw (Holland Arms) and Ceint. We park at the roadside near the church (SH 478734). The church has just been renovated and has a very interesting history, including links with the Holland Family of Plas Berw. We will then proceed to Plas Berw, where we will be welcomed by the owners, Pam and Mark Beckmann. We will hear about the recent work on the medieval house and stair tower.
