Unfortunately Nia Powell cannot give her lecture on The Acts of Union and the Identity of Wales due to illness. The lecture will be postponed until the autumn.
Since this is such a late cancellation our Chairman, Frances Lynch Llewellyn, will give a lecture on The Nebra Disc and Heritage Tourism in Halle (Germany). The disc is a very intriguing piece of Bronze Age astronomy and the Heritage Tourism is a lesson in how to bring people to somewhere where there is nothing to see!
Friday 20 March, 2015 – Tunnicliffe Room, Oriel Ynys Môn at 7.00 pm
Pot Pourri
We will have two talks on exciting new archaeological finds in the north of the island by
Matt Jones on the current excavations at Llanfaethlu revealing Neolothic pottery and structures and
Dave Hopewell of GAT on the newly discovered Roman fortlet near Cemlyn.
After a short break for tea or coffee Gareth Huws will distribute a short questionnaire lead a discussion about the type of meetings and excursions members would like us to organise for them. Topics covered will include the following:
– What sort of lectures; what topics; are the times and location convenient?
– Are the alternatives to the ‘talk and questions’ format?
– Should we run events in conjunction with other local groups and societies?
– Should we try to tailor some events to particular groups (6th formers, older people etc)
The results will be published in the Autumn Newsletter.
